Can the Leafs make the playoffs?

As I write this, the Leafs sit 5 points behind the Carolina Hurricanes for the 8th playoff spot. The Hurricanes have played 63 games and the Leafs have played 62 so far. Tonight is a huge game for the Maple Leafs, as they head into face the Atlanta Thrashers.

It is going to be an exciting race for that 8th spot with the Buffalo Sabres coming on strong. The Sabres have 65 points and have two games in hand on the Hurricanes and one on the Maple Leafs.

Here is a quick look at the Standings

Team                     GP     PTS

Rangers                 64       70
Hurricanes             64       67
Sabres                  61       65
Maple Leafs           62       62
Thrashers              62       61
Panthers               61       59

Then New York Rangers have the 7th spot with 70 points and they have already lost today against Tampa Bay, so that is great news for the Leafs.
The Carolina Hurricanes are in the 8th spot with 67 points

The Leafs need to win tonight or the Thrashers will pass them in the standings.

Blue Jays and Twitter

There are a few Toronto Blue Jays on Twitter, But manager John Farrell warns his players to be careful.
This from the Toronto Sun

DUNEDIN — Twitter doesn’t much interest John Farrell but a number of his Blue Jay players are tweeting on a regular basis.

Farrell isn’t about to put restrictions on his players, but he is wary.

“I don’t tweet and I don’t plan to,” he said.“We make (players) aware of some of the pitfalls. We do what we can to educate all of our players on social media.”

“It’s part of our everyday lives so we’re not going to say they can’t do it. But I think they’ve got to be careful if they’re going to engage in it.

“My own opinion is that for a player to be involved in that, they set themselves up for another distraction.”

Here are some of the Blue Jays that are on Twitter

Cheers Lance Armstrong

To my friends and family, you know my love for Lance Armstrong runs deep. While many think he is a "douchebag" or a "cheater", I think he is an amazing human being. I've read most of the books about him, my favourites being "It's Not About the Bike" and "Lance" by John Wilcockson. These books taught me so much about his life and his hurdles throughout it, that they almost overshadow his cycling accomplishments. Make no mistake though, there is no denying that Armstrong is a freakishly amazing athlete.

Watch Out For Milos Raonic!

I've been wanting to write a tennis post since I started this blog and now I have a reason. It was announced today that Canadian, Milos Raonic, has jumped to #59 in the ATP Tour rankings. He jumped 25 places and is now the highest ranked Canadian tennis player on the Tour. Milos' reputation is growing and he is now someone to watch out for!

Penguins/Islanders Brawl

So my question to you

Is Brent Johnson the toughest NHL goalie?
With Ray Emery playing in the AHL right now I would have to say Yes.

First he knocks out Rick DiPietro

Then one week later he holds his own against a forward who skates down to fight him. Eric Godard who you see jump over the boards and join the fight received a 10 game suspenison while trying to protect his goalie.

Raptors Suck

It's hard to be a Sports fan in the city of Toronto.

I use to go to a lot of Toronto Raptors games with my friends and it was always a good time. But I haven't been to one game this year. Here are some reasons why.

  • It is harder to be interested in the team when I can't watch them on TV. A lot of their games are on TSN 2 or Sportsnet 1, and I don't have those channels. I think all of Toronto’s teams have lost a bit of their fan base from all these sport channels, that are just around to make money.
  • Knowing that once a player becomes a Star in the league they will want to leave Toronto to get more exposure in US markets, so they can promote their stupid websites. Like really does every player now need a website and to brand themselves.
  • They have lost 15 out of the last 16 games. That doesn’t make me want to spend my hard earned cash.
  • The players are really overpaid for what they do in my mind.
  • I have been lucky enough to meet 2 former Raptors, and let’s just say it wasn’t a pleasant meeting with both. One couldn’t believe I didn’t want to go home with him. Compare that with the one hockey player I have met (Cujo) and he was amazing and signing autographs for everyone who asked and was so down to earth and nice. So I think I look at Basketball players a little differently now.
  • The game can be pretty slow with all the time outs and stoppages.
  • And finally it’s not Hockey

Super Bowl Eats

This Super Bowl I am on the fence on who I want to win. I like the Steelers but really not a fan of Big Ben. The good news is that I know what I will be bringing to my friends Super Bowl Party
Restaurant Style Chicken Nachos
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 6 green onions, sliced, white parts and tops separated
  • 3 tablespoons canola oil
  • 1 shredded, cooked, whole chicken breast
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup salsa
  • 1/2 (12 ounce) package tortilla chips
  • 1 (8 ounce) package shredded Cheddar/Monterey Jack cheese blend
  • 1/2 large tomato, diced

Directions

1)Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2)In a 12 inch skillet over medium heat, cook and stir the garlic and white parts of the green onions in canola oil until tender. Mix in shredded chicken, salt and pepper. Toss until well coated with oil. Stir in the salsa.
3)Arrange tortilla chips on a large baking sheet. Spoon the chicken mixture over tortilla chips. Top with Cheddar/Monterey Jack cheese blend and tomato. Bake in the preheated oven 10 minutes, or until cheese has melted. Remove from heat and sprinkle with green onion tops before serving.

 Yum Yum
Go Packers....hmm Go Steelers:)

Yes I have a blog now:)

So after months of my friends bugging me to get on Twitter I signed up. My thinking is there is no point in just going half way into the online world. So why not have a blog:)

I grew up watching and playing sports so chances are most of my blogging will be about Football, Baseball, Backetball and Hockey. I can't promise it will be 100% sports. Shopping and boys sometimes seem to get caught up in my mind. So this will be a good place to vent.

Can't wait for the superbowl tomorrow. I am heading to Becca's place to watch the game. She is having some of the boys from down the street over and should be a fun Super Bowl Party.

It's a tough call for me on who I want to win. I like the Pittsburgh Steelers and Troy Polamalu. But I am really not liking  Ben Roethlisberger these days. He just seems like such a jerk off the field.

Who do you think will Win??
